NEAC Annual Report for 2006
Date of publication:
November 2007
This is the fifth annual report of the National Ethics Advisory Committee (NEAC). NEAC is established under section 16 of the New Zealand Public Health and Disability Act 2000 to provide advice to the Minister on ethical issues of national significance regarding health and disability research and services.
NEAC’s statutory functions are to:
advise the Minister of Health on ethical issues of national significance in respect of any health and disability matters (including research and services)
determine nationally consistent ethical standards across the health sector
scrutinise national health research and health services.
This annual report states NEAC’s approach to its policy work on services and research ethics, and sets out NEAC’s activities for 2006. This includes major work on elective services, pandemic planning and observational studies. It also contains details of other NEAC projects, committee membership, and secretariat information.
